United Bank Foundation grant to expand LIVESTRONG program to Westborough YMCA branch – November 2013

Dena M. Hall, president of the United Bank Foundation, has announced an $8,000 Foundation grant to the YMCA of Central MA.

The grant, which will be paid over two years, supports the expansion of the free LIVESTRONG® at the YMCA program for cancer survivors to the Y’s Boroughs Family branch in Westborough, to provide easier access to the program for residents of Northborough, Westborough and Shrewsbury. The program was previously only available at the Y’s Greendale Family Branch in North Worcester.

LIVESTRONG at the YMCA is the only free health and well-being program in Central Massachusetts that focuses on the cardiovascular endurance, muscle strength, flexibility and overall well-being of cancer survivors. Participants work with trained staff to improve muscle mass, self esteem and confidence after cancer treatments.

The program also focuses on the emotional well-being of survivors and family members, and provides a community where people impacted by cancer can connect during treatment and beyond.

To date, approximately 6,000 survivors nationwide have participated in this unique program, a collaboration between the YMCA of the USA and the LIVESTRONG™ Foundation.
