What is the MasterCard account updater?
This is a new service provided by MasterCard for participating merchants to use to retrieve United Bank cardholder account changes, like new debit card numbers, so they can ensure minimal disruption for your card-on-file transactions and automated payments.
What are card-on-file automated payments?
Card-on-file payments are processed using card numbers you have stored with a merchant or service provider. This is typical with websites where you have created an account and saved your debit or credit card information. Some examples include clothing websites; online retailers like Amazon; online payment services like PayPal; and movies and music services like Netflix and Pandora.
What are considered automated payments?
Automated payments are recurring payments that you set up with a service provider or merchant. This would include utilities, subscriptions, gym memberships, insurance premiums and phone, cable or television services.
Will all of my payment information be automatically updated through the MasterCard Automatic Updater service?
The MasterCard Account Updater is only available to participating merchants. The merchants that do participate can choose how frequently they will check for updated payment information. Therefore, to avoid late payments and penalties, United Bank always encourage you to log in to your merchants’ websites, go to your account profile and add any new card information, when necessary. You should also log in to United Bank Online Banking and review your recent card transactions.
What can happen if I do not update my current debit and credit card information?
Unfortunately, your automatic payments will not go through and your merchants may assess late fees. Most merchants will notify you if your payment did not go through. When it comes to card-on-file transactions, if you do not update your United Bank MasterCard information (card number and expiration date) the transaction will be immediately declined. You will have the opportunity to update your card information and resubmit the order. However, be proactive about updating your card information to avoid any disruption.
What if I wanted to opt-out of the MasterCard Account Updater?
You can opt-out. Simply complete the opt-out request form located on our website or visit your nearest United Bank branch to complete the form. Also, if you have any questions or comments, please feel free to call our Customer Care Center toll-free at 1-866-959-2265.
