iQuilt Ensures Winterfest Hartford Goes On in Bushnell Park

After almost five months of fundraising, the iQuilt Partnership has raised the minimum of $230,000 needed to open the Winterfest rink in Bushnell Park for free ice skating, free skate rentals and free learn to skate classes from November 24, 2017 to January 2, 2018.

“Today, the United Bank Foundation helped us get to our minimum fundraising goal of $230,000.  Without their support and commitment, we would not be able to bring this amazing family activity back to the capital city,” said Jim Carter, Chair of the iQuilt Partnership’s Board of Directors.

The iQuilt Partnership formally contacted United Bank last week to discuss the opportunity for the Bank to become a sponsor of the 2017 Winterfest rink. Within 24 hours United Bank’s CEO, William H.W. Crawford, IV, and the United Bank Foundation, responded with a financial commitment of $30,000 to ensure the rink in Bushnell Park would be opened on time. United Bank Foundation will be the “Naming Sponsor” for the event.

United Bank moved its Corporate Headquarters to the Goodwin Square Office Tower in October in downtown Hartford and recognized the importance of joining corporate sponsors and other generous supporters in making sure Winterfest goes on as planned.

“When we saw the long list of friends who had already pushed this worthy cause so close to the goal line we were honored to be given the opportunity to push it over the top so all Greater Hartford residents could enjoy ice skating with family and friends,” said William H.W. Crawford, IV, CEO of United Bank. “Come join us at Winterfest this season and we applaud iQuilt for standing in the gap and uniting people for an even better Capital City. Hartford Has It!"

“Winterfest is a great Hartford tradition, and I’m proud and grateful that so many individuals, businesses, and foundations from throughout Hartford and the region stepped up – once again – to keep the tradition going,” said Hartford Mayor Luke Bronin.

“We are so thrilled with the response from corporations, foundations and individuals,” said Jackie Gorsky Mandyck, Managing Director of the iQuilt Partnership. "We have some true Hartford heroes."
