United Bank Foundation Donates $2,500 to Veterans Inc. of Worcester

The United Bank Foundation Massachusetts today proudly announced they have donated $2,500 to Veterans Inc. of Worcester to support the organization’s Food Services Program, which is designed to meet the basic needs of local military veterans and their families by providing hot meals and nutritious foods.

Veterans Inc.’s Food Services staff operates a hot meals program at two of their transitional housing locations, where they offer breakfast, lunch and dinner every day to veteran residents. This is an opportunity for homeless and at-risk veterans to not only receive three nutritious meals a day but also provide a venue for them to come together and interact with other veterans.

According to statistics provided by Veterans Inc., over 165,000 meals are provided a year between their Grove Street and Shrewsbury residences.

The Food Services Program also operates a food pantry for veterans and families who meet income guidelines. The pantry, on average, provides 340 households with food each month – totaling nearly 10,000 visits per year. The organization partners with local food banks as well as other individuals and organizations that donate fresh food and organize food donation drives to increase inventory so they can fulfill local veterans’ basic food needs.

“When it comes to our military veterans who selflessly served and sacrificed at home and abroad, it is critical for the community to come together to ensure our veterans can meet their basic needs – from food and housing to employment and health,” said Tom McGregor, Senior Vice President & Regional Banking Executive at United Bank.  “Thanks to Veterans Inc. and their well-run Food Services Program, homeless and at-risk military veterans in Worcester have a comfortable place to go for a nutritious meal and a team of compassionate, hardworking staff they can count on to guide them through the challenges they face after their service to our country. That’s why Veterans Inc. is a leader in New England in not only improving the lives of military veterans but saving lives too.”

“United Bank has been a strong and consistent supporter of Veterans Inc., through both their financial generosity, and the generosity of spirit exhibited by their staff in lending their time to support our agency,” said Vincent J. Perrone, President & CEO of Veterans Inc. “Because of United Bank’s support, more veterans will receive critical services; the support provided by United Bank will make a real, tangible difference in the lives of our men and women who have served.”
