United Bank, HBID's Strategic Community Partnership
The Hartford Business Improvement District (HBID) is pleased to announce they are the recipient of a $50,000 grant from the United Bank Foundation, the charitable arm of United Bank now headquartered in downtown Hartford, Connecticut.
This generous contribution will help the HBID achieve their mission to help enhance the economic vitality and quality of life in Hartford’s commercial core. The $50,000 grant will help support various programs and initiatives championed by the HBID, including the Clean & Safe Ambassador program.
“Our strategic partnership with the HBID is a sound investment in the future of downtown Hartford,” said William H.W. Crawford, IV, CEO of United Bank and its holding company United Financial Bancorp, Inc. “For those who live, visit or work in our Capitol City and the property owners and businesses of all sizes who rely on the work of the HBID, as a new downtown neighbor we wanted to join others in the public and private sectors in ensuring this dynamic organization has access to the resources they need to enhance the quality of life in the central business district.”
The United Bank Foundation also recently donated $10,000 to Journey Home, a nonprofit based in downtown Hartford that works with the HBID in addressing homelessness and panhandling.
In addition, United Bank and the HBID have teamed up to put a SOOFA bench in Bushnell Park where visitors can sit and recharge their cell phones for free using solar technology. Look for the park bench with the United Bank Foundation and HBID logos on it that reads, “Jingle Bells, Charge Your Cells.”
“We are thrilled to have United Bank downtown, and are so grateful for the support that the United Bank Foundation has shown us, and our partners both downtown and throughout the city”, said HBID Executive Director, Jordan Polon. “It’s exciting to see the commitment United Bank has made to downtown Hartford in the short time they’ve been here. We are grateful for their commitment to join us in our work to improve and grow the economic vitality of our commercial business district.”
