United Bank Foundation CT Donates $5,000 to the Vernon Historical Society
William H.W. Crawford, IV, Chief Executive Officer of United Bank, today announced that the United Bank Foundation Connecticut, Inc. has donated $5,000 to the Vernon Historical Society in support the organization’s year-long 50th
The Vernon Historical Society established a special committee last year to begin working on the 50th
Anniversary Celebration, which will culminate with an Open House Reception on Sunday, October 23, 2016. The Society is inviting everyone to attend this free event where guests can explore the Museum, view a display of historical artifacts and browse a robust collection of “then and now” photographs.
According to the Vernon Historical Society, the organization was founded 50 years ago with the goal of preserving the heritage of Vernon and honoring its history for future generations to enjoy. Over the past five decades, members of the Vernon Historical Society have maintained historical artifacts from Vernon’s past, conducted educational programs for local students, published books dedicated to the history of the town and continue to sponsor free programs to raise awareness of the communities vibrant past.
“United Bank – then named the Savings Bank of Rockville – was founded in 1858 in downtown Rockville by 20 local businessmen. For more than 150 years we’ve been proud to play such an important role in shaping the town’s history - not only as a community bank for generations of families but also as a generous supporter of so many local organizations that have made Vernon a truly special place to live and do business,” said Mr. Crawford. “I want to personally thank the Vernon Historical Society for giving United the opportunity to be a part of their 50th
anniversary celebration and we look forward to showcasing some of the Bank’s local history in the Museum.”
