United Bank Foundation CT Donates $25K to HMF's FitKids Program

The United Bank Foundation Connecticut generously donated $25,000 to the Hartford Marathon Foundation to support their FitKids in School program, a popular and successful program among educators that is designed to encourage a healthy, active lifestyle in students in grades 4th through 8th.

United Bank Foundation CT Donates $25K to HMF's FitKids ProgramAdam Jeamel, Eastern Connecticut Regional President, was onsite for the FitKids race on Tuesday, October 6 to personally make a check presentation to Kenneth Shluger, Emeritus Board Member for the Hartford Marathon Foundation.

FitKids is a voluntary, goal-oriented running program. Over a five-week period, students run together before, during or after school to accumulate 12 miles or 25 miles. Then, on October 6, they came together with students from middle schools around Connecticut for the culminating “Final Mile” run to complete their marathon (26.2 miles) or half marathon (13.1). All students crossed over a magnificent finish line complete with music, announcers and cheering spectators. A Finisher's Medal was given to each child to celebrate their accomplishment.

More than 10,000 kids have participated and collectively run over 170,000 miles in the FitKids In School Program since it began and it comes at no cost to participating schools.
