United Bank’s Tom McGregor Receives Community Bank Heroes Award
William H.W. Crawford, IV, Chief Executive Officer of United Financial Bancorp, Inc. (NASDAQ: “UBNK”) and United Bank of Glastonbury, Conn., today announced that Tom McGregor, Senior Vice President and Regional Commercial Banking Executive covering the Worcester market for the Bank, received the Community Bank Heroes Award presented by The Warren Group/Banker & Tradesman.
According to The Warren Group and Banker & Tradesman, the Community Bank Heroes Award honors the achievements, commitment and dedication of financial professionals who go above and beyond for their institution and community. To be selected for the award, the banker must be dedicated to service and reinvestment in the community and make charitable giving a priority. The nominations are reviewed by an independent panel of judges who decide which nominees are the most exceptional examples of their Community Bank Heroes Award.
McGregor was nominated for the award by Paula A. Aiello of Worcester, Mass., a Board member for United Financial Bancorp, Inc. and United Bank. McGregor was among only 14 Massachusetts bankers to be honored with the Community Bank Heroes Award in 2015. The winners were presented the award on Wednesday, May 27, 2015 at an event hosted by The Warren Group and Banker & Tradesman in Boston, Mass.
McGregor, who resides with his family in Shrewsbury, Mass., joined United Bank in January 2015 and has over 20 years of commercial banking experience, including holding various leadership posts at Santander N.A. as well as Bank of America/Merrill Lynch.
In addition to his extensive banking background, McGregor serves on the Board of Directors for Mechanics Hall and The Research Bureau. He serves on the Executive Committee for Y.O.U., Inc., a nonprofit that serves troubled adolescents throughout Worcester County. McGregor is also Treasurer and Board Member for Higgins Armory Museum in Worcester and has been involved various youth sports. In 2009, he was selected by the Worcester Business Journal for their “40 Under Forty” award.
In her nomination of McGregor, Aiello wrote, “Tom’s reputation in the Massachusetts banking industry transcends far beyond his professional success. His volunteerism has been inspiring and he will tell you that his commitment to the community is about making this area an even better place to live more than it is about using community affiliations to build professional networks.”
Crawford added, “Tom embodies the vision and culture we promote at United Bank: he pursues excellence in all things, especially when it comes to our customers and the communities we serve. Since joining United five months ago, he has become an admired teammate and a true leader of our community banking team in Worcester. His colleagues and our Board of Directors are incredibly proud of him for winning this award and we look forward to the positive impact he will continue to make as a commercial banker and untiring volunteer in Worcester.”
