Melanie Joy Named 2016 Women of FIRE Award Recipient
William H.W. Crawford, IV, Chief Executive Officer of United Financial Bancorp, Inc. (NASDAQ: UBNK) and United Bank of Glastonbury, Conn., today proudly announced that Melanie Joy, United’s Senior Vice President of Regional Commercial Real Estate Lending, was selected by The Commercial Record to be among their 2016 Women of FIRE award winners from Connecticut.
The Commercial Record, a weekly industry newspaper published by The Warren Group that covers residential and commercial real estate and the financial sectors in Connecticut, presents the Women of FIRE award to the most talented, the most ambitious, the most innovative and the most philanthropic women in finance, insurance and real estate. This year, The Commercial Record selected 12 women from Connecticut who are achieving excellence, making a difference in their respective industry and inspiring others through their hard work and leadership.
Joy, who has nearly 30 years of commercial real estate lending experience, joined United Bank in 2012 (then Rockville Bank). Prior to United Bank, she was a Senior Vice President and Resort Finance Manager at Liberty Bank, after serving for many years as their Commercial Real Estate Team Leader. Joy started her career with MassMutual in 1987 as an Assistant Director of Real Estate Investment.
“One of our top priorities at United Bank is to recruit and retain the top bankers in the industry and we did just that when we hired Melanie in 2012. Without a doubt Melanie is among the best and the brightest in banking and she’s rightfully earned the admiration of her teammates and customers not only in Connecticut but throughout the Northeast region,” said Crawford. “United Bank has significantly evolved over the past five years and I can confidently point to Melanie’s leadership in our commercial real estate division as a significant contributor to our successful growth.”
In addition to her professional experience, Joy is also active in the community where she volunteered her time as a Board Member and Committee Chair of the Middlesex Habitat for Humanity of Connecticut.
She will be honored with the other 2016 Women FIRE award recipients during a luncheon at the Aqua Turf Club in Plantsville, Conn., on August 25.
